African history is missing from our literature and our history classes, yet it is a rich, complicated narrative with fascinating twists and turns. In "Tulukumbou and the Ship of the Desert" we've woven a fictional story into a historical setting, the ancient, West African Empire of Wagadou, also called the Ghana Empire.

Bonus Pages in this book

The art style for this book is unique and inspired by the artwork from Africa. We include a page explaining that artwork.

In the back we have a glossary of terms, a brief history  of the Empire and the Trans Sahara trade route, and a map showing the historical references in the story overlaid onto modern Africa.
